TRI Today
Internationally renowned for pioneering, multi-disciplinary research, the Thrombosis Research Institute is dedicated to the study of thrombosis and related disorders.
Its mission is: To provide excellence in thrombosis research, education and patient care and to develop new strategies to prevent and treat thrombosis, thereby reducing healthcare costs and saving millions of lives.
The TRI’s work involves conducting clinical and real-world research to identify those at risk of thrombosis and protecting them, reducing further the number of preventable deaths in hospital. We pioneered and coordinated the GARFIELD outcomes research initiative – two worldwide observational programmes which ran from 2009 to 2019. We are continuing to analyse the data from these registries and utilising the findings to improve understanding of thrombosis and identify opportunities for innovation.
- The GARFIELD-AF registry helped to enhance the breadth and depth of understanding of stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation and is ultimately helping to develop strategies for improving patient outcomes worldwide
- The GARFIELD-VTE registry helped to bring a real-world perspective to the field of venous thrombosis. It is describing the acute and long-term management and outcomes in patient populations representative of everyday clinical practice in more than 20 countries
